The luster of the V12

A crown jewel. A wonder of engineering. The V12 engine is a masterpiece inside and out. Size, force, and two roaring arrays of six cylinders running in complete symmetrical synchronicity bring a masterfully balanced touch to smoothly exert the stunning power emerging from within. A distinctive roar strikes the senses of motoring enthusiasts.

The symphonic sound of twelve cylinders firing is exhilarating. Promising smooth balance paired with explosive power, V12s will take your breath away. You'll hear them coming. It didn't just appear into existence either. Aston Martin's own V12 is an engineering marvel, with a rich heritage of production that has taken us to this very point.

Before the V12

In the 1920s, Aston Martin fabricated engines for both road and circuit—with both missions dedicated to a pairing of performance and balance that would define our ethos. In the 1930s, four cylinders were enough to fire our cars to race victory. Soon after came greater appetites for thrills.

1950 brought DB2 into the fold, a supermodel that hit the road with a straight-six 2.6 liter under the bonnet. Six cylinders operating in harmony to the tune of 125 horsepower in ‘Vantage’ specification established an engine that would spawn racing variants, powering our racing cars of the 1950s.

This successful engine was replaced by an all-new six cylinder engine introduced with the DB4 in 1958. Designed by our in-house designer, Tadek Marek, it would power our production models into the early 1970s.

Muscle flexed in 1969 with the launch of another Marek masterpiece, the 5.3 liter V8, an engine that would remain in production until the last V8 Vantage derivatives in 2000.

For the mid 1990s, an all new car—the DB7—debuted with a supercharged straight-six 3.6-liter engine before it was superseded with a V12 powered Vantage variant in 1999. Greatness would ascend.

Project Vantage's 1998 introduction changed everything just ahead of the turn of the millennium. The V12 launched with the DB7 Vantage in 1999 before being revised in 2001's Vanquish bringing 460 BHP. Vantage S then raised the stakes to 520 BHP, pushing boundaries ever further.

Then, the DBS Superleggera shone with its 5.2 liter twin turbo V12. With limits being pushed to the extreme, the 750 bhp DBS 770 Ultimate found yet another path forward.

Each model a milestone. This was the founding of an innovative bloodline that builds on legacy in a way that leaves it at the pinnacle. It is truly best-in-class

New turbochargers run ever faster—15% faster to be exact—supplying the V12 with more air whenever it is required. Making strides on the flow rate of the fuel injectors. It’s these changes that shifted the output to up to 835PS. The exhaust has been redesigned for intuitive efficiency. Each chamber emptied to prepare for the next fuel/air inhalation. Careful calibration makes high performance possible.

The new V12 is a realization of our relentless quest to push the boundaries of what is possible in the V12 crucible, and Aston Martin almost stands entirely alone in pioneering V12 excellence and harnessing its visceral performance capabilities.
