Joining the Formula 1® grid in 2024 alongside 20 cars that push speed to the precipice. The Vantage is the official FIA Safety Car of Formula 1®. Standing as another addition to our rich racing heritage. And built from the ferocious foundations of the latest Aston Martin Vantage but tuned with the force to meet the demands of a life-saving role. In heart-stopping style.
Taking thrills and adding safety
The latest iteration of the Vantage was built for driving purity. Whether that’s the road or track. Engineered specifically from the inside out to let the outside in. Putting precision in the palms and firing feedback through the fingertips. Giving it the natural performance to prowl the track as the Formula 1® Safety Car with only moderate need for modification.
When it came to the Vantage’s critical role of intervening and controlling the pace of a Formula 1® race involving the fastest racing cars in the world. Our engineering team adapting and modifying it to make it officially F1® ready. An F1® car's tyre temperatures can drop when run at a sub-optimal speed. Putting more pressure on the importance of lap times. So, our engineers needed to fire the already sprint-ready Vantage to new performance and lap time heights. Setting it with a profiled and extended front splitter and rear wing. Increasing downforce and pushing it to lap quicker at Grand Prix speeds. The F1® Safety Car is also rallied by a hand-built 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 engine. The fastest bearing the Vantage name. Propelling this car from a serene standstill to a seething 60mph in just 3.4 seconds. This model has been spurred on by the most significant boost in power and torque compared to its predecessor, firing with a 30% increase in power to 665PS and a 15% increase in torque to 800Nm.
The finishing touches from our team came by making the Vantage FIA ready. Emblazoning it with FIA additional screens and a rear-view camera. All built around a bespoke centre console switch pack, which incorporates switchgear for the FIA systems.
Darren Turner, Aston Martin Performance Test Driver said, “The new Vantage was always going to be a game changer and that is also apparent with the F1® Safety Car. With the extra power and bespoke aero package, the car is perfectly balanced when pushing the limit. So much fun behind the wheel and a car that gives the driver a huge amount of confidence. It made me slightly envious that Bernd Mayländer, who has been at the helm of the F1® safety car for over twenty years, now gets to enjoy the car for the rest of the year.”
In pole position to protect
Race ready and angled to arrow itself into action. Vantage was born to stand shoulder to shoulder with the fastest in the world with its indomitable power and increased dynamism. And thanks to the obsessive work of our engineers, it can now meet the demands of leading the F1® pack as the Safety Car for the whole season. Appearing for the very first time in the second race at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah, on the 9th of March 2024.
